Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Madisonville District Curriculum

In Math, the first goal is to teach basic math skills. The second goal is to apply these core concepts. In early years numbers are introduced and one of the first tasks is counting. Later in elementary grades, using numbers for operations and quantification becomes significant. All range of problem-solving methods are introduced so that students become able to look at a problem at know the best way to solve it.

In English Language Arts students learn to read, write, listen, speak, observe, inquire and use technology to communicate. Reading is very important and teachers use a variety of reading materials to encourage literacy. Standards are met for each grade and your child is assessed regularly to ensure he or she is meeting those standards. A writing program is in place as writing skills are tantamount to a good education. Technology tools are used throughout the Language Arts curriculum to help your child advance.
