Martinsville District and Curriculum

Martinsville Schools follow a curriculum that incorporates academics and social skills to produce individuals who can make significant contributions to society. Technology is used to enhance this process, and abstract reasoning is a focus of core courses, such as mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies. With early learning programs, rigorous academic offerings, and a host of extracurricular activities, students in the district have many opportunities to develop into well-rounded individuals.

We currently cover the following Martinsville-area school district: Martinsville School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Martinsville District Curriculum

The math curriculum begins with an introduction to topics in numeracy, pattern and shape recognition, and probabilities and ratios. Once students arrive in high school, math classes become more complex and include the study of data analysis, probability and statistics, and algebraic structures. This process of laying a foundation before introducing more complex is used in all subjects.

Students interested in health fields can take elective courses in medical terminology, physical therapy, and the dental and veterinary fields. Internships are an integral part of the courses as well. These courses are meant to assist in preparing students to enter the workforce immediately after graduating and will provide them with entry-level skills. Elective courses in other areas allow students to explore personal interests. Classes are available in areas such as dance, theatre, and world languages. In art classes, history, the study of aesthetics, and the artistic process are emphasized.

Chalk Talk: How To Catch Up On Missed School Work

Most students miss a few days of school every once in a while. Missing school means that there will be school work to complete when you return, however. If you know you’ll be absent ahead of time, contact your teacher and let them know. They may be able to set aside assignments for you or give you the work early to complete. If this is not possible, you can also tell a friend and ask them to take good notes that you can copy later. In this new age, some schools also have put assignments on school websites. If your school does this, make sure that you check the website as well as ask the teacher about any missed work. When you get back, make sure you get started on the missed work right away. This way, you can ask questions about any topics you don’t understand, which will prevent you from falling behind in class. Finally, hand in your missed schoolwork as soon as possible. The sooner you finish it, the sooner you can relax!
