Chalk Talk: How to Write a Resume

A quick internet search will reveal many websites that offer tips for writing resumes. Some sites and popular software programs have resume templates preloaded, so that you all have to do is fill in some blanks. There’s nothing wrong with starting off with a template, but millions of others are using the same templates. How can you make your resume stand out? Write a detailed objective, clearly explaining what kind of work you are interested in. Know the job description and requirements of the job you are applying for, and highlight your knowledge and skills that fit. If you don’t have work experience, focus on your education. Finally, always write a cover letter, which introduces you and tells why you are the best person for the job. Remember to change your cover letter and resume each time you apply for a job, so that potential employers see how you fit with the position.
