Menlo Park District and Curriculum

The schools within Menlo Park follow a curricular model that provides an overview of the skills and knowledge students will gain in each subject. These skill sets are what comprise the learning objectives and are the outcomes to which teachers align instruction and assessment.

For the core academic subjects of Math and Language Arts, the schools use the Common Core Standards. These standards describe the major areas of learning within the subjects and the specific skills required for students to become proficient in each. In Math, students develop skills in numeracy, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. The Sciences cover earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, technology and environmental sciences.

We currently cover the following Menlo Park-area school district: Las Lomitas Elementary School District, Menlo Park City School District, Ravenswood City School District, Redwood City School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Menlo Park District Curriculum

In Language Arts students are taught how to read literary and informational texts, how to write using a process, and other communication skills. These skills build on themselves in such a way as to bring about critical thinking and analytic skills.

Programs that cover a wide range of subjects, or take a different approach to the teaching of the subjects, like International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP) or Career-Oriented Programs also have curriculum that describe the expected outcomes.
