Middletown District and Curriculum

Middletown, OH has two school districts; Middletown City Schools and Madison Local School District. The curriculum for both districts is Ohio’s New Learning Standards which includes the Common Core State Standards in Reading and Mathematics. Common Core State Standards are a more concise number of objectives covered with the expectation that the content will be covered in greater depth for student success in school and for post-secondary readiness.

We currently cover the following Middletown-area school districts: Madison Local School District and Middletown City School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Middletown District Curriculum

Both districts use Ohio’s New Learning Standards which is comprised of the Common Core State Standards. These standards reduce the number of objectives covered and expect more rigor and relevance in these essential core standards. The goals for a more concise and deeper curriculum is meant to prepare students for post-secondary life. Students are challenged to think critically, collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate creativity in all subjects.

In Mathematics, the focus in on real-world application of mathematical concepts and a deeper understanding of the processes and operations. Students are taught to master mathematical operations, fractions, and decimals while applying these skills in solving problems and reasoning abstractly. Not only do students perform the operations and solve problems, they also examine other students’ responses and analyze, argue, prove, and explore the reasoning of others work.

Keeping Informed: Recent Middletown Educational News

  • MCS Receives $500K - Middletown Community Foundation wanted to assist with the renovations at Barnitz Stadium, so the Foundation presented the superintendent with a $500,000 gift to support the project. The grant was presented during the Knowledge Series Luncheon held at the Middletown Senior Center. Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was the speaker at today’s event. The grant will be paid at $50,000 a year for the next ten years.
  • Academic Excellence Designation - Madison Local School District received the Ohio Department of Education designation of “Excellent.” This distinction is based on four measures of performance which include the performance on state indicators, the performance index, adequate yearly progress, and value-added measures. Madison Local met 18 of 26 state indicators, had a performance index of 94.4 out of 120, did not meet adequate yearly progress, and met or exceeded 7 out of 10 value-added measures which is indicative of having students grow a year in achievement for a year.
  • COSI Visits Schools - Sun Coke sponsored a Center of Science and Industry (C.O.S.I.) visit to Amanda Elementary in Middletown City Schools for an Investigating Energy program. Sun Coke will supply 15 volunteers at the all-day event for grades K-5. Dr. Kilowatt also makes an appearance during the program and students learn about creating energy using renewable and non-renewable sources.
