Chalk Talk: The Importance of Learning a Second Language

In our increasingly globalized economy, the need to speak a second (or third) language is becoming more and more important. Workers who can speak multiple languages are in high demand in all sectors of the economy, from government to education to business. Companies want people who can work remotely and interact with other remote workers who may speak a different language. Similarly, companies want employees who can travel abroad and engage with potential customers in their native tongue. Learning another language also provides people with an opportunity to learn about and experience another culture, which is especially important given the globalized world in which we live. By studying other cultures and learning foreign languages, students can ensure that they will be prepared for work and life in the 21st Century.
