Milton District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The curriculum used in the public schools of Milton was developed by the province’s Ministry of Education. The curriculum is a framework that organizes the subject into measurable learning outcomes for each subject at all grade levels. It describes what a student should be able to do to have attained proficiency in the subject. The curriculum is used by instructors to plan the objectives for their lessons; it organizes each academic subject around both the skills and knowledge requisite to the subject and also the higher order thinking and conceptual foundations related to the subject matter. This allows for both breadth and depth in the teaching of the subject while making sure that students across the province reach the same high standards of learning.

We currently cover the following Milton-area school districts: Halton District School Board and Halton Catholic District School Board.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Milton District Curriculum

In English, students learn about reading, writing, language usage and other communication skills. Students learn how to use correct punctuation, including how to utilize certain punctuation to bring excitement to their writing. Young writers learn how to avoid inappropriate shifts in verb tense, as well as changes in pronoun number and person. Gerunds, participles, and infinitives are also studied, as are various forms of verbs, including imperatives, interrogatives, and subjunctives.

In Math, students build a foundation in numerical operations, shape recognition and measurement, algebraic patterning, and calculating probabilities. Later in middle school and in high school, geometric equations are a main component of the curriculum as well. Geometric constructions are made, and students learn to understand congruence specifically in terms of rigid motions. Equations and geometry are paired as well, with students learning how to use coordinates to prove theorems algebraically.
