Missoula District and Curriculum

Missoula County Public Schools believes that all students can learn and achieve, regardless of ability. The comprehensive curriculum in grades K-12 has two core areas: Mathematics and English Language Arts. There is a focus on teaching English within the courses of Social Studies and Science, and Missoula Schools also have a focus on Native American Education, and a 21st Century Learning initiative. The standards have been developed by the Montana Office of Public Instruction.

We currently cover the following Missoula-area school district: Missoula County Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Missoula District Curriculum

In English Language Arts, the curriculum contains objectives in the teaching of how to refer to specific details within a text, fiction and non-fiction, and draw connections and inferences from the text. Students are taught to identify a story or poem’s theme, and to also make a summary of the text. Characters must be described, as well as the setting and events of various stories and details from the text need to also be referred to, such as the thoughts or actions.

In Mathematics, learning objectives include: the understanding of multiplication (multiple digits) and the ability to explain the process of this multiplication. The students are taught to discover the process of division in order to find the quotients in multiple digit dividends and how to apply multiplication to fractions as well. A range of math literacy and communication skills are also taught so that students are able to explain their problem-solving method with clarity and precision.

The middle school teaching assistant also helps the teachers by making copies and organizing or filing for them.
