Chalk Talk: History Education

History, when taught in an engaging manner, is more than just names and dates. History can help students learn how to wonder about events of the past and use critical thinking skills when they try to think about how things could have been different. They also learn the importance of the events in the past and the people that were a part of them. These same students can then see how the events pertain to them and their lives. Through civic and government classes, they learn how to become responsible citizens and how other citizens have shaped the world today and the future. By visiting historic sites and museums, students also get another perspective on history and are able to explore specific topics in depth. Through learning from the past, the students of today will make a better tomorrow.
