Murrysville District and Curriculum

Franklin Regional School District provides instruction for each of their students according to what is needed in their specific situation and with their particular abilities. Besides all regular course offerings and requirements, the District provides support for students who might need extra support in a classroom setting. This includes special education students as well as ESL or ELL (English as a Second Language or English Language Learners) students. Their ESL program is extensive and designed to get students to a level where they can function normally in all classes, able to express their ideas, knowledge, and feelings.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Murrysville District Curriculum

Aside from their ESL program, Franklin Regional School District has put a lot of thought into their special education program. They use different methods for different students depending on their abilities. For those that can handle it, students are given the same curriculum as students in regular classrooms while in a more controlled and supported environment. For students for whom this is not possible, they have other programs to incorporate learning in a way and at a level that students can handle.

The Franklin Regional School District also has support for Blind or Visually Impaired students as well as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Aside from all of this they offer Speech and Language Support, Occupational and Physical Therapy within the school setting, and they also have a Special Needs Athletic Program. There is also provided a program for Gifted students where, after qualified students have been identified through a three part screening process, their specific needs are identified so that the district can provide enhancements to their educational experience.

Chalk Talk: Why Sleep Is Important for Students

There has been so much hype recently on the importance of sleep for students and the effects of sleep deprivation on students of all ages, perhaps especially effecting high school students due to their busy schedules in the evenings. Because of this issue, some schools have talked about making their start time later for students in the hopes that they would be able to get more sleep and do better in school. The facts speak for themselves. Lack of sleep can cause your brain not to function as well. Not only does it make learning and retaining information more difficult for students, if they drive to school in a sleep deprived state it is significantly more dangerous for them. Lack of sleep also causes mood problems such as depression, lack of self control, and lower performance levels. There are so many other effects that lack of sleep has, but with this information it is easy to see the importance of making sure your student has the time needed to get a good night’s rest.
