Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Muskoka Lakes District Curriculum

In the English curriculum, the plan is set out to create literate readers across subject areas, writers who are proficient in developing a piece of clear and correct writing, and viewers of media who are able to use a critical eye to evaluate the message or content. The opportunities for students to engage in these reading and writing tasks each year build the skills necessary to become critical thinkers who are able to communicate effectively in college or post-secondary careers.

The role of technology in the schools has changed the landscape for learning significantly. Students use technology throughout the day to enhance learning, or to create products of their learning. In high school, students may have opportunities in school or through eLearning programs to take specialized courses in computer programming, technology design, 'green' technology, and next generation fields.
