Chalk Talk: AP Classes Offer Academic Benefits

Students that are able to take Advanced Placement (AP) classes reap a variety of benefits from doing so. AP classes offer a much higher level of rigor than typical high school classes. As a result, students develop college-level skills that are critical for success at that level. The requirements of AP courses challenge students to evaluate, analyze, and problem solve, all of which are commensurate with college level studies. Additionally, AP students that score high enough on their exams may be able to get college credit for their course. By completing college credits in high school, students are able to save money in college and finish their collegiate studies ahead of schedule as well. Otherwise, students can take electives or explore a minor with the additional room they have in their college schedule as a result of taking AP classes.
