Chalk Talk: The Importance of Art Education

Fine arts are typically one of the first programs to be cut in a school district with budget problems. Often seen as not as important or relevant as other programs because they are not state tested and don’t typically bring in a lot of money like sports programs do. However, art education can give even high achieving students a respite from other rigorous courses. It gives them a chance to be creative, engaging a different portion of their brain. Studies have consistently shown that students who have at least one course in art, tend to have higher grades overall.
