Chalk Talk: Why Parental Involvement Is Important

Having parents that are highly involved in the educational process gives kids the support they need to reach their highest potential. Children earn better grades, have better attendance, and improved test scores if they have a parent that is involved. Students also complete their homework more consistently and meet deadlines and due dates with greater success. When parents are involved, children generally have much better attitudes toward education as well. These attitudes result in better behavior at home and at school, where students experience fewer disciplinary actions. Parental involvement is particularly important for children with special needs, those that come from poverty, and children of color. By working with education professionals, parents can help reduce achievement gaps and boost the success of their children.
