North Castle District and Curriculum

Residents of the Town of North Castle will attend one of many school districts. All school districts that serve North Castle adhere to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) benchmarks. These guidelines meet the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), an initiative to align and unify core academic instruction. Currently, the NYSED curriculum and its districts are making changes to the English language arts and mathematics curricula to increase its rigor and focus.

We currently cover the following North Castle-area school districts: Bedford Central School District, Byram Hills Central School District, Harrison Central School District, Mount Pleasant Central School District, and Valhalla Union Free School District.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Parent Teacher (Student) Organizations

Today’s PTAs/PTOs are quite different from the past: 1. Men are more involved in leadership and membership; 2. Students are becoming a valuable resource; and 3. Numbers are dwindling. Whatever the ramifications or reasons for these changes, one fact remains—these groups are vital to the survival of many school functions and programs. The national PTA involves itself in political discourse and legislative wrangling; however, local associations work to raise funds, host events for the community, and provide volunteers for school functions. Many proms, charity drives, and spaghetti dinners would fail to exist without the PTA/PTO. Classrooms may never see new white boards, craft supplies, or print materials. PTAs/PTOs provide schools with stability and advocacy. Students view their education in terms of the worth adults place on it. Spending time and money on educationally related events and materials will help students’ perspectives and give them necessary tools for learning.
