Educating Our Parents: Understanding the North College Hill District Curriculum

Students in North College Hill can participate in a world languages curriculum as early as kindergarten. Elementary school students acquire a basic understanding of a second language through interpretive exercises. Students learn words, phrases, numbers, and other common parts of speech by interacting with their peers. Students engage in simple conversations to practice their new language skills and to practice determining meaning and understanding of unfamiliar words and phrases. Gestures, intonation, and tone are practiced as well, so children gain insight into the proper way to communicate in their new language.

In Social Studies, students explore emerging economic powers around the world, like China and India, and explain how the growing power of those nations impacts the power of other nations. Learners examine rapid population growth, particularly in Asia, and postulate how increasing human populations will impact already diminishing food and water supplies.

Fill out your FAFSA and figure out a plan to cover other expenses. Will you need a job? Can your parents help? If you’re concerned about money, do all you can to find scholarship and grant opportunities. Entire books and websites are dedicated to this service. Did you know there are scholarships out there that award based on height or last name? If college doesn’t seem right for you at the moment, make that decision now (and make sure that’s the right decision). Lastly, prepare for your new future—after meeting all high school requirements.
