Educating Our Parents: Understanding the North Dumfries District Curriculum

Math is organized so that students can gain operational and mathematical reasoning skills. Each topic in math, such as algebraic relations and geometry, are introduced slowly and student understanding is built through increasingly complex topics. In Science, students develop their content knowledge in conjunction with the processes of scientific inquiry. In English, the basis for literacy and communication is established so that students have the means to do analytic work. The English curriculum is designed to support learning in all subject areas.

The goal is that students are expected to fully comprehend each topic, and be able to apply that knowledge through many different tasks and assignments. The curriculum provides the framework by which teachers are able to plan instruction that is founded upon clear standards which brings about these outcomes. There are also programs that prepare students for college and career such as Co-Operative Learning and Dual Enrollment Programs.
