Chalk Talk: What Are Grade Level Expectations (GLEs)?

Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) are clearly expressed goals for student learning in each subject for each grade. They are often referred to as Objectives or Standards of Learning, but by and large, they serve the same purpose of providing clear guidance as to the skills, knowledge and concepts that students need to learn each year. This ensures that all students receive a high quality education preparing them equally for success in post-secondary academic and career pursuits. The curriculum is designed so that students are on a path of learning in each subject from the beginning of their elementary years to the end of high school.
