Chalk Talk: How Students Can Memorize Information

Mnemonics are very helpful for auditory learners and can be adapted to visual learners as well. There are some other fantastic memorization methods that can be extremely effective for tactile learners as well. If you must learn a process, you may want to draw it out in some type of order or graph. Be sure to use lots of colors and detail in your drawing as you outline what is going on in the process you are describing. The drawing doesn’t need to be sophisticated, but it should get the message across to you. You may also add clues from one piece of information to another to help connect them in your brain. Students may use Venn Diagrams to help them remember things as well or other visual methods of presenting information such as graphs, pie charts, and others. Pyramid schemes can be helpful as well. These can be combined with Word Mnemonics to make the memorization even easier.
