Chalk Talk: Cooking with Children

Teaching children to cook is valuable because it is a skill that they will use throughout their lives. Beginning cooking lessons when children are young will help them learn to be creative and enjoy working in the kitchen. To make cooking activities fun, here are a few suggestions:

  • Plan the cooking activity and be sure that you have all of the ingredients and equipment which will be needed
  • Set up a work area that is safe for children and supervise them at all times
  • Read all directions together. This gives children practice in reading and following instructions
  • Let children measure so they can practice math skills
  • Include your children in cooking often and create family fun and memories around this wonderful activity!
