Park City District and Curriculum

Woodland School District, Gurnee School District, and Warren Township High School District all use the Illinois Learning Standard as the framework for subject-area teaching. The ILS provides grade-level expectations and a scope and sequence by which students build their understanding each year. The schools believe its mission is to maximize the achievement and growth of every student through rigor, support, and innovation. They school strives to provide opportunities for success for all students, regardless of cultural difference or learning style. They believe that student achievement and growth are maximized when the school focuses its energies on continuous improvement in curriculum and approach.

We currently cover the following Park City-area school districts: Woodland School District 50, Gurnee School District 56 and Warren Township High School District 121.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Park City District Curriculum

Educators are able to instruct students in the learning objectives in the manner they think will work best. The district monitors this by using data and best practices to assist with decision making throughout the school community so that the curriculum is competitive, rigorous, and provides a quality education for students. The school also makes an effort to promote and support innovation and creativity. Rigor and support are infused throughout student programs and staff development in order to ensure success.

Teachers have the opportunity to tailor their lessons to fit the individual needs of students, whether that means providing remedial work to help a struggling student catch up to grade level, or providing advanced work to keep a high-performing student engaged. They also are able to work with teachers of other disciplines to create cross-disciplinary learning experiences. The school honors diversity as an asset so that students will be prepared for success after graduation in our increasingly diverse and competitive global economy.

Chalk Talk: Rolling Applications

Early Decision and Early Action applications get the most attention, but Rolling applications might just be the best choice for college application types. They aren’t binding or restricted, not even by hard deadlines, so students are free to apply when they want without ramifications. Also, Rolling applications tend to lead to quick responses, usually within two to three weeks, so students don’t have to wait as long, whereas Regular Decision applications might take months to get a response, and Early Decision tends to take a couple months as well. Rolling applications don’t have the bells and whistles of some other application types, but they also don’t have the higher acceptance rates, either. But sometimes this tradeoff is worth it.
