Pickerington District and Curriculum
The Pickerington Local School District is responsible for the education of over 10,000 public schoolchildren in and around the city. The district includes fourteen schools, where children engage in learning experiences that are intriguing and challenging. With high expectations for all students, teachers and staff work closely with parents to ensure students have all the support they need to be successful. It is a diverse district, with students representing many ethnicities and social backgrounds. As a result, social responsibility and respect for others is a focus of the district’s character education component.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pickerington District Curriculum
A central part of the elementary English language arts curriculum is reading literature. Students in grades K-5 work on acquiring a basic understanding of the craft and structure of literature, as well as key ideas and details. To develop these skills, students take part in directed learning in which they identify key components of a text, retell stories using key ideas, and describe the characters.
The social studies curriculum in Pickerington includes an in-depth study of modern world history. Students acquire the historical thinking skills required to evaluate information critically. Learners use primary and secondary sources to paint a picture of past events and analyze those sources for bias. These sources are used to examine world events from the 1600s to the present, culminating in a study of the globalization that has taken place since the 1990s. An analysis of the end of Communism is undertaken, including how the breakup of the U.S.S.R. led to democratic revolutions throughout eastern Europe.

- ST Math Now Offered in Pickerington Schools - A recent grant in the amount of $900,000 will allow the Pickerington Local School District to offer ST Math to elementary school students. The ST Math program is a new visually-based form of learning math that makes mastering difficult concepts fun.
- Pickerington Schools Offer Welcome Center to New Families - To help ease the transition of moving into the district, Pickerington Local School District has opened a Welcome Center for families new to the area.
