Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Plainfield District Curriculum

Students in Plainfield must demonstrate their content-area competence by meeting benchmarks and standards outlined in the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards. These standards establish what students should be able to understand at each grade from pre-K through the 12th grade. Students must show proficiency in the visual and performing arts, health and physical education, world languages, technology, science, social studies and 21st Century life and careers.

The Science curriculum is predicated on the notion that students must have the knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes in order to be effective decision-makers and productive members of society. To prepare students to meet these goals, high school students are required to take at least three lab-based sciences, to include biology, chemistry, and one of the following: engineering, physics or environmental science. Students must take the End of Biology and End of Chemistry assessments at the conclusion of those classes and pass the test in order to meet proficiency for the standards.
