In language arts and social studies classes, both classwork and homework assignments enhance learning.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Plymouth District Curriculum

The social studies curriculum emphasizes student learning on understanding and appreciating seminal historical events, while also examining the challenges our nation and world face today. Citizenship is also a particular focus, with students learning the skills and attitudes required to be thoughtful, productive members of society. Children learn about civics and government, and the importance of being actively engaged in both, as well as economics and the factors that drive the economy.

Students can also study subjects such as accounting, radio and television production, and marketing. Artistic skills can be expanded through dance, music, visual arts, and theatre classes. Health and wellness courses educate students on the importance of making responsible decisions to increase personal wellbeing. Disease prevention and other influences on health are also emphasized. Physical education courses complement information learned in health and wellness courses with physical activity.

Chalk Talk: What Can A Reading Tutor Do For A Student?

A tutor can be an immense help for a student when it comes to building reading skills. A student may need help with different aspects of reading, such as reading comprehension, vocabulary, or reading out loud. A reading tutor may go over certain grammar aspects like punctuation to help students understand how sentences should be read. They may also ask a student to listen to them read aloud or have the student take turns reading with them. They can also help students develop skills needed to interpret new words or comprehend more complex literature. Being able to combine what they know, want to know, and still need to learn can be a difficult task to learn how to do alone. A reading tutor can break down these concepts into individual steps to make the process easier. In terms of reading comprehension, a reading tutor may focus on concepts such as how to identify the main idea, coming up with important questions to ask, and how to answer other questions after reading a text.
