With over 3,000 students, it is one of the largest school districts in Portage County. The Ravenna School District is committed to providing a top-notch education to each student in preschool through the twelfth grade. Each of the district’s schools are a safe, secure, and welcoming environment in which students can learn. Small class sizes and a team of dedicated teachers and staff members ensure that the needs of each student are met. Engaging lessons encourage children to explore, investigate, and inquire.

We currently cover the following Ravenna-area school district: Ravenna School District #187.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ravenna District Curriculum

Ravenna’s technology curriculum introduces students to various technologies that improve their educational experience and prepares them to work in our highly technological modern world. Students work with various hardware and software applications, multimedia platforms, and other electronics to enhance their ability to learn. This includes learning how to conduct research online and determine the value of online resources. Students also learn how technology can facilitate communication and collaboration with other learners either locally or across the globe.

As part of the Ravenna financial literacy curriculum, students undergo a study of entrepreneurship. Students learn about what entrepreneurship entails, and develop an understanding of how it positively impacts our economy. The factors that contribute to success and failure in business are examined, as are the long-term impacts of entrepreneurship on the overall economy. The skills and abilities needed to begin one’s own business are analyzed, with students identifying the skills they have that could make them an effective business owner.

Chalk Talk: Health Benefits of Reading

Reading early and often is a key determinant of a child’s academic success. The more a child reads, the better his or her vocabulary, understanding of syntax, and ability to write well. Reading is also often strongly correlated with improved performance on classroom assignments and standardized tests. However, frequent reading also has many health benefits. Because reading requires our brains to be highly engaged, researchers believe that it can stave off memory loss. The sharper mental acuity gained by reading often is also thought to prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Emotional health can be impacted by reading as well. Studies show that the more a person reads, the more empathic they are towards others. Lastly, reading can help improve sleep. Reading for a few minutes before bed each night can help get your child’s body into a routine of rest and relaxation, making sleep easier to come by when their head hits the pillow.
