Redding District and Curriculum
The curriculum followed by the schools in Redding provides a standards-based approach to subject area learning. The curriculum for each subject describes the major areas of learning and then details the skills and knowledge that go into it. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Redding District Curriculum
The Math curriculum describes the areas of numerical operations, geometry and measurement, algebra, and statistics and probability that students will learn about each year. The Science curriculum provides a framework for earth and life sciences, chemistry, physics, environmental science, and technology subjects. The Language Arts curriculum covers critical reading of fiction and non-fiction, writing for a range of purposes, speaking, and listening skills.
By designing a curriculum based around standards of knowledge that students will work through yearly, the chance to develop higher order, critical thinking and problem solving skills is offered. Later, as students enter into specialized programs or academies, the curriculum describes the way in which other subjects will be taught in conjunction with traditional core academic subjects.

- North Woods Discovery School - The North Woods Discovery School is a recent addition to the Gateway District. It offers students a focus on science, technology and math while also introducing students to the arts and other traditional subject areas.
- District Farm - The Shasta Union High School District is offering something new and different for the whole community. There is now a District Farm which offers a range of learning opportunities and also provides people with a chance to get outside and live healthy.
- Trimathelon - Similar to the famed Academic Decathalon, students with a particular interest in Math are able to join the Trimathelon Club. Students compete in a number of competitions throughout the year continually deepening their mathematical abilities.
