Richmond District and Curriculum

The schools in Richmond use a curriculum that is a standards-based framework for what students are expected to achieve in their classes. The delivery of the content knowledge is described and the skills and knowledge that support them are detailed so that teachers may plan instruction. Assessments are also aligned to the expectated outcomes described in the curriculum.

We currently cover the following Richmond-area school district: West Contra Costa Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Richmond District Curriculum

In Math and Language Arts, the Common Core Standards is the curricular framework that is used. In Math, students are instructed in numerical operations, algebraic operations, geometry and measurement, and statistics and probability each year. In Language Arts, the subject is organized around reading literary and informational texts, writing and revising processes, listening, and speaking. Over the years, this deepens students knowledge and draws out their critical thinking, problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills.

Social Studies and History, Languages and other subjects provide curriculum that similarly describe the major learning areas of the subject and the skills involved. For more in-depth and specialized programs like small school models, curriculum that infuse other areas of learning within the core content have been developed.
