Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Robbinsdale District Curriculum

The district has drawn up several Guiding Principles of what an effective literacy curriculum should be. These include the use of literature to understand literary heritage, the development of thinking and language through interactive learning, the emphasis on informational texts to build academic vocabulary and content knowledge, the writing of various genres, high expectations for students, the instruction of reading and writing skills, relevance to students’ interests, and the promotion of a literate society.

Middle school students in Robbinsdale learn how to create their own art as part of the visual arts curriculum. Students work on developing two-dimensional artwork, such as drawings, as well as three-dimensional work, such as sculptures.
