Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Robbinsville District Curriculum

The Robbinsville Public School District has developed a well-balanced, relevant and engaging curriculum that promotes learning in all students. Classroom lessons are responsive to the needs of all learners, and curricula are consistently reviewed and revised to reflect best practices. The Common Core Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards are the guidelines for curriculum development.

In addition to undertaking the study of core subjects such as math and science, students also receive a comprehensive arts education. Music education is a primary component of the arts curriculum. As part of the music strand, students explore the elements of music, from musical notation to rhythm to melody. Students acquire an understanding of different groups of instruments, including woodwinds, brass and percussion. Students who seek to have advanced instruction in the performing arts, whether vocal or instrumental, undertake music performance. Additionally, the history of music is examined, in which students identify how music composition and delivery has changed over the course of human history.

Chalk Talk: The Value of AP Coursework

Taking AP classes in high school provides many benefits for students. AP classes are highly rigorous and help students develop the critical thinking and problem solving skills they will need to be successful in college courses. Students who take AP courses also get a head start on college, as many courses result in college credit if the AP exam is passed with proficiency. Students can easily complete a semester’s worth of college classes before they graduate from high school. And since college credit can be earned, AP students can save money on the cost of college. This also opens up room in a student’s schedule, allowing them to take extra electives, or take enough classes to have a minor or a second major.
