Roxbury Townhip District and Curriculum

The Roxbury School District is the only public school district in Roxbury Township, New Jersey. The district is comprised of four K-4 elementary schools, one intermediate school for grades 5-6, one middle school for grades 7-8 and one high school for the remaining grades. There are over 4,100 students in the district, all of whom receive a comprehensive, standards-based education that focuses on their intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. By educating the whole child, the Roxbury School District’s fulfills its mission to prepare the children of today for success.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the RoxburyTownship District Curriculum

Curriculum development in the Roxbury School District is primarily driven by the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. These standards outline specific learning targets for students in pre-Kindergarten through the 12th grade, and govern the following subjects: 21st Century life and careers, visual and performing arts, technology, social studies, health and physical education, world languages and science. Math and language arts classes are developed according to the standards set forth in the Common Core State Standards.

The health and physical education standards in the Roxbury School District are designed to provide students a foundation for physical, emotional and social well-being. A primary component of the curriculum is teaching students about drugs and medicines. Students in the elementary grades are taught about basic medicines, learning the difference between prescription medications and over-the-counter medications. Students learn about warning labels and gain an understanding of why medicines should be administered as directed.

Keeping Informed: Recent Roxbury Township Educational News

  • Club Raises $1,000 for Rotary - Members of the Roxbury High School Interact club recently staged a movie night to raise funds for the Rotary Club. The fundraiser garnered over $1,000 which will be used in community-based projects.
  • Roxbury Students Donate Food - Students from Lincoln-Roosevelt Elementary School recently donated over 3,100 cans of food to the Roxbury Social Services Department. The school participates in the food drive each year and beat it’s previous record by over 300 cans.
  • School Choice Program - The School Choice was instituted so that families would have additional options for their children's education. The goal is to provide options that can connect with all students, for students who are struggling in their current environment it increases options and also for students who are excelling, they may find a better fitting school environment for their talents.
