Chalk Talk: Student Loans

College has become so expensive that many students cannot afford to attend with taking out loans. Loans can be useful in the long term for students; a reasonable loan can help a student establish credit, for example. But an extremely large loan can be debilitating, especially when the student is entering a field with a low salary range. The US government offers two types of loans: subsidized and unsubsidized. Subsidized loans are those for which the government will cover the cost of interest will the student is enrolled in college. For unsubsidized loans, the government doesn’t cover these costs. Loans are usually given as a mix of the two. Private loans are also available, though, because they aren’t offered by the government, they aren’t subject to the same regulations as government loans. This can mean that legislation to relieve student loan debt suffering might not help those with private loan.
