Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Scottsbluff District Curriculum

In grades K-12, the Mathematics curriculum of Scottsbluff School District includes learning number sense and number concepts, using a variety of strategies to reason, communicating quantitative information, and solving problems using whole numbers as well as fractions. Computation, estimation, various operations (such as within graphing, measurement and algebraic equations) and using number sense by having the knowledge of what “looks” right, even after solving, are some of the strands in the mathematics curriculum.

Within the K-12 curriculum of Reading, standards contain: the learning of print knowledge, such as one-to-one correspondence of words and their spacing, phonemic awareness, the analysis of words and sentence structure, fluency while reading, comprehension of many texts, and the learning of new vocabulary within the texts. This enables students to read for meaning and knowledge, bringing about analytic reading skills.
