Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Seaford District Curriculum

The mathematics coursework follows a guideline, starting at elementary school where students are introduced to the world of numbers and
basic mathematical abilities such as arithmetic, patterns and operations, and algebraic, geometric, and quantitative reasoning. After
ensuring that these subjects have been mastered, students are taken through a paced program which is initiated in secondary school,
continuing their mathematical education through learning algebra, trigonometry, statistics and geometry, while also strengthening
their abilities in standard math.

The English Language Program also follows a similar route, introducing students to the world of writing and reading at the elementary
school level. As soon as students are able to read basic texts, educators continue their educational program by introducing various
forms of writing and handing out assignments to strengthen the understanding of form, purpose, and audience. Teachers are able to use
material from national and world known authors to engage students in the English Language, while providing them with interesting
references to mold their writing styles.

Chalk Talk: How to Maximize Your Child's Learning Potential

We all learn differently, and we all have different talents. With the experience and wisdom that you have gained as a parent, you can easily assist your child's interest in school and education. Find your child's special interests, and see what captivates their attention most. By using what your child's interests, you can help them ease into subjects that they may have difficulty in grasping. For example, if your child is interested in drawing, teach him or her how to draw out difficult concepts in math as models. Seeing problems from different perspectives not only helps children succeed in school, it will help them immensely in their lives as adults.
