Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Seward District Curriculum

Technology is integrated into the core curriculum, which has been established by the Nebraska State Education Department. In K-12 Mathematics, technology is incorporated into the teaching and learning of number sense, geometry, algebra, and data analysis with probability. The students and teachers have access to iPADs, laptops, technology labs, SmartBoards, and projection systems to aid in the application and discovery of the math objectives.

In Language Arts, these various methods of technology are used to facilitate reading, oral language activities, writing, and research. Technology supports students learning and creative abilities by giving the relevant tools to work with. It also gives students an additional tool during presentations, enabling their speaking and presenting abilities. Technology within the K-12 curriculum actively involves the students, helping them to reach their full potential academically, and to be better prepared for a 21st century global society.

Chalk Talk: The Role of the Technology Assistant

The Technology Assistant is hired within a school to aid in learning outcomes within all aspects of the core curriculum. Nowadays, technology is used within the schools to prepare the students for the future. The Technology Assistant is usually working in the computer lab, and is there to either instruct the students as they come in for computer lab time, or to go from class to class and assist the teacher in the teaching of a lesson using technology. Technology Assistants also perform tasks, such as teaching an elective course on video programming, facilitating a news show for the school, working on the yearbook, creating memorable slide shows for the students, and much more.
