South Lake Tahoe District and Curriculum
The schools of South Lake Tahoe use a series of curriculum which covers all the subjects offered at the schools. The Common Core Standards are used in Math and Language Arts and are the model for other curricular frameworks. The goal of the curriculum is to explain the key principles and concepts for student learning and then to specify exactly what strategies and knowledge are to be taught at each grade level.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the South Lake Tahoe District Curriculum
Language Arts and Math both provide skills to understand and evaluate information. In Language Arts, students have the opportunity to read for pleasure and for information, for personal, persuasive and explanatory writing, to develop speaking fluency and to listen to others. In Math, students develop the ability to use and select computation tools, use mathematical modeling, and a range of problem-solving skills in areas as diverse as algebra and geometry.
The abilities that students develop in these two subjects help with the learning in other academic subjects like Science, History, Social Studies, Languages, the Arts, and all the electives students may take. With a range of analytic, interpretative and evaluative skills, the concepts and processes of study in these areas are supported. The intended outcome of the curricular design is for students to feel capable of taking on any complex or inter-disciplinary topic that is interesting to them.

- I Got Caught Awards - The I Got Caught Awards are being given to encourage students positive behaviors in all areas. As students are seen doing helpful things for others, they are given an award for ice cream at lunch. Great way to teach the joys of small acts of kindness!
- Leadership Program - The Leadership Program at South Tahoe Middle School provides elective-style courses for students in the field of leadership. This topic is tied to many other areas of study and students may find a number of connections between this electives and their core courses.
- Junior S Club - The Junion S Club is an organization developed for middle schoolers who are interested in participating in civic engagement type activities both in school and in the community.
