Chalk Talk: The Importance of Physical Education

The physical education curriculum helps students develop an understanding of various fitness, wellness, and health topics. Students focus on acquiring the motor skills and aptitude for movement patterns that are necessary to participate in common physical activities. They participate in various lifetime activities that promote overall health and fitness. Students play games and participate in sports in order to enhance these skills. Learners also gain an appreciation for the role that physical activity plays in one’s overall level of fitness. The dangers of inactivity are explored as well, with students learning about obesity, diabetes, and other ailments that result from not getting enough exercise. Students examine ways they can stay active, whether participating in individual activities like running, or playing games like softball or tennis with their peers.
