Spanish Fork District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The curriculum in the Nebo School District follows the Utah State Standards, which emphasize producing career and college ready students at high school graduation. In Mathematics, these standards follow a three-tiered system, which provides opportunities for advanced students to take college level courses in high school, and focused interventions for struggling students to make sure that they master important concepts.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Spanish Fork District Curriculum

In English Language Arts, the standards require that students are exposed to a variety of texts, and that they learn how to read critically and write analytically about what they are reading. The elementary schools emphasize reading skills, and use a variety of techniques to encourage this, including involving parents by using reading at home calendars and newsletters with information on what children are learning in class and how to reinforce those skills.

Through the integrated math program, most students are exposed to basic algebra, geometry, and statistics, at varying levels from elementary school through high school. Middle school students take Social Studies courses in Utah history, US history, and world history, a variety of science, English and Math classes. There is also career and technical education courses, and the opportunity to integrate the visual and performing arts, the study of a foreign language, and other elective courses added within all levels of the curriculum.

Chalk Talk: Why Good Writing Matters

Being able to communicate clearly in writing is important in all areas of life, not just in school. Being able to write well is essential in the business world, where much communication happens via emails and memos, which have to be able to express complicated ideas in ways that readers will understand. Jobs in the sciences and technical fields as well require that employees be able to write clear explanations of what is happening in their work and what its impacts are. Employers look for employees who can write clearly, with correct grammar, in ways that will not confuse their coworkers or the public, regardless of what sort of job they are hiring for. If you are struggling with writing in school, work closely with a teacher or tutor to make sure you have this skill down for your life ahead.
