Speedway District and Curriculum

Students at Speedway Schools follow the Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts, and state-developed frameworks for learning in other subjects. However, the district helps students transition to the high school curriculum through offering various levels of mathematics and electives. The high school curriculum expands further to include numerous art, music, and language courses. The curriculum also shifts to a more dominant focus in technology education, and business and marketing.

We currently cover the following Speedway-area school district: Speedway Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Speedway District Curriculum

The language arts curriculum requires students to develop research skills and various styles of writing. They will also have the opportunity to read a variety of texts that gradually increase in complexity. These texts will originate from different genres and time periods. Speaking and listening skills are also emphasized through opportunities for class discussion and students will have chances to demonstrate original ideas.

The science curriculum teaches students properly use the design process as well as develop the skill of observation. Formulating testable hypotheses and data collection will be focused on as well. As students progress, they will gain the ability to describe physical properties and use technology to enhance their learning experience. In high school, Advanced Placement and Honors courses are available in many areas. Other science courses include biology, chemistry, earth and space science, environmental science, human anatomy and physiology, and physics.

Chalk Talk: How To Find The Right Book For You

Reading can satisfy curiosities and enhance education, as well as teach students to utilize their imaginations. Picking the book that will hold your interest can be a difficult task, however. A student should start with making a list of topics they’re interested in or curious about. Perhaps wild animals fascinate them or they’ve always wanted to find out more about the human body. There’s a book for almost every subject out there, as long as you’re willing to find it. Secondly, students should think about the type of book they are interested in. Personal preference is a big factor here and it may take some experimenting to figure out whether you like fiction or non-fiction more. Within each type are many genres that you can choose from, including poetry, drama, biographies, and essays. You can also find out more information about a book by reading the summary that can be found on the back or the inside jacket. There are many other techniques to finding the right book but it is important to remember that the decision of what to read is personal.
