Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Spencer District Curriculum

The objectives for Language Arts include students comprehending, interpreting, and responding to texts; reading and responding to various genres of literature; and writing in a coherent and organized manner. Students also explore how two different texts may treat the same topic differently by comparing and contrasting the authors’ main points. This is accomplished by examining several works from the same period that treat similar themes. To improve their own writings, students learn how to vary the structure of sentences and utilize varying introductions, transitions, and conclusions.

Financial literacy is a central component of the high school curriculum. Students learn about various topics in finance, including savings, credit and debt, and salary information as it pertains to a variety of careers. Learners explore what it means to be financially responsible. The Arts programs help students to see the world through a more creative lens. Students learn how to utilize their unique experiences, perceptions, opinions, and abilities to create art that is distinctive to their specific point of view. Students also explore major works of art and offer insights and critiques regarding the artist’s work.

Chalk Talk: Thinking About a College Major

Sometimes it may take more than four years to complete a bachelor’s degree, especially if a program requires an internship. Social workers, teachers, pharmacists, and accountants need a bachelor’s degree. After graduation, some people wish to continue in their education, especially if their goals require more coursework. People may continue in their current school or move on to another one that specializes in specific graduate programs. People with a master’s/doctorate degree or other certificate may work in various fields, such as psychology, medicine, science, or theology. From high school, it may be impossible to see this far into the future, but having a general vision may help you make plans for financing and finding the right location. Getting more information by joining extracurricular activities or participating in summer programs is also a good idea.
