Spring Lake Township District and Curriculum

The Spring Lake Public Schools use the Michigan Merit Curriculum as the basis for student learning. The curriculum gives educators details about the scope and sequence of learning, thereby ensuring that all students across the state are receiving the same quality academic standards. Each subject is organized according to the major topics of the subject, such as biology, chemistry and physical science in the Science curriculum, and students are introduced to grade-level appropriate content in each of these areas throughout elementary and middle school. Chalk Talk: Overcoming Test Anxiety

Test anxiety can strike students of all ages and abilities. Many are familiar with the feeling of fear that can come when facing tests, from increased heart rate, perspiration and the feeling of going blank. To help overcome this anxiety, parents can support their child by helping them attend school regularly and creating a restful place at home the weeks of testing. It’s also important for students with test anxiety to take their time. They should not feel rushed, but feel like they have had adequate time to read and understand all the questions, as well as review their answers. Parents also need to keep track of a child's progress over time, not just on one test. Communication with the child while giving encouragement will also help. Finally, talk with school officials if there are any questions or concerns about a test result.
