St. Joseph District and Curriculum

Four different public school districts serve the community of St. Joseph. The Sartell-St. Stephen School District, Holdingford Public Schools, and Rocori Public School District cover parts of the city. However, the primary district in St. Joseph is the St. Cloud Area School District. The caring, dedicated, and highly qualified staff in each of these districts work hard each day to ensure children have the resources and support they need to be successful. Although the districts serve well over than 10,000 students, there is a focus on individualized education. Teachers, staff members, and administrators work closely with students and their families to promote a positive learning experience. As a result, children develop a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

We currently cover the following St. Joseph-area school districts: Holdingford Public Schools, Rocori Public School District, Sartell-St. Stephen School District, and St. Cloud Area School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the St. Joseph District Curriculum

The elementary curriculum focuses on reading, writing, math and laying the foundation for social studies and science. Students learn the fundamental concepts and skills in each subject, and are introduced to basic critical thinking activities. In middle school, an additional layer of analysis and reflection is brought in and students are expected to dig deeper in each subject. Once students are in high school, the curriculum supports advanced academic work and provides opportunities for students to focus in on subjects that are meaningful to them and prepares them for the future.

St. Joseph’s high school arts curriculum includes an in-depth study of the visual arts. Learners analyze and evaluate various types of artistic works, noting how artists use various mediums and techniques to communicate their unique ideas, thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. Students experiment with various mediums and techniques in order to find their voice as well. Offering and accepting criticism is another important aspect of the curriculum. Students likewise learn how to take feedback to improve upon their own work.

Chalk Talk: Are Longer School Days Necessary?

Recent studies show that high schools that have extended learning days produce more significant academic results than schools without such programs. These studies have many experts wondering if longer school days are necessary in order to help students get ahead. But these extended learning days don’t necessarily mean sitting in class for more hours each day. Many of these longer school days put students in college classes or work environments to help them prepare for the next stage of their lives. The skills and knowledge they acquire in these settings also help students be more successful in their traditional classes. With increased rigor and higher expectations, these longer school days could have a significant positive impact on student achievement. Communities considering a change to their schedule may wish to solicit feedback from students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
