Summerland District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The school district uses a curriculum that explains the learning expectations and anticipated outcomes for student learning in all core subjects and elective courses of study. With dedicated teachers, schools that are safe and inviting for all students, and a curriculum that challenges students to succeed, the school district prepares young people to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. 21st century learning expectations such as creative and collaborative thinking and adaptability in a technological society are also embedded within the curriculum.

We currently cover the following Summerland-area school district: School District 67 Okanagan Skaha.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Summerland District Curriculum

Once students have mastered the basics, the schools encourage students to pursue a path that is suited to their interests and goals. Students may choose from a variety of courses in the following subjects: the arts, family and consumer sciences, foreign languages, music, physical education and health, special education, academic intervention, technology and business, and numerous options in core academics. The programs offered include Advanced Placement (AP) courses, language immersion, sports academies, and vocational training.

Students also acquire practical skills necessary for daily living, including the ability to problem solve, recognize patterns, and critically analyze information. They also investigate potential careers and examine the financial implications of their career choice. Chalk Talk: Choosing a College

The decision about what college to attend is one of the most significant choices a young person will make. Schools provide guidance on the selection and application process, but students must remember that it is a personal choice and consider whatever factors will bear on their decision. For instance, distance and location are a primary concern. Some students may want an urban college close to home, others may want to be in a rural environment far from home. Program options are also high on the list of importance as the college must have the academic programs that will prepare students for life after college. Scholarship and funding matters also weigh in on the decision, and students are best-advised to start considering the financial aspect early on in their planning. Students should not feel influence by peers with regards to this decision, and truly be guided to make the best decision for themselves.
