Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Sun Valley District Curriculum

The curriculum ensures that students are able not only to be successful in other subjects, but also to be successful in college and chosen careers. Having good reading and writing skills is necessary for all school subjects. In Kindergarten students learn letter recognition and individual letter sounds. They also learn how to write the letters and learn the sound of each letter. Students learn to listen to stories and are tested on their comprehension by answering questions about the story or being shown a picture and telling the part of the story that picture represents.

By the time they reach high schools, students are reading various styles of literature and using the literature to make connections with real life. They write across diverse disciplines and they learn the art of speaking to groups. The district curricular goals put a lot of emphasis toward teaching students good reading and writing skills, along with critical thinking skills.

Chalk Talk: How Do I Know If My Child Needs a Tutor?

If your child is having trouble in school and you and his/her teacher have exhausted all options, you may want to consider a tutor. A good tutor can give your child individual tutoring, whereas, the teacher may not able to give much individual attention. Due to the number of students in the classroom the teacher simply does not have the time to give one on one intense tutoring that your child may need. A tutor can come to your home to help your child, or you can get online tutoring. If your child is really having a lot of trouble, finding a tutor who works well with your child will be a good choice.
