Sylacauga City Schools follows the curriculum of the state of Alabama in the core subjects as well as all supplemental subjects and electives. The core subjects of Math, English, History, and Science are taught by highly qualified teachers. Electives are offered to engage students unique interests and create opportunities to try out new subjects. Beginning in the primary grades, the core subjects are focused upon, and become more advanced as the students move through the grade levels.
In science, a hands-on and minds-on curriculum is offered. Students are exposed from the early years to the scientific process and discovery of new innovations and theories. Technology is incorporated into the delivery of instruction in this subject area. Furthermore, critical thinking skills are developed through the manipulation of materials in science and the study of results from various experiences. Scientific discovery and being literate in this subject area is vital to the students’ success.
