Tiburon District and Curriculum

The schools in Tiburon follow a curriculum series that gives the big picture rationale for a subject and then the exact learning expectations for students in each grade. These are used in all subjects as well as the inter-disciplinary subjects offered. The purpose is to ensure high expectations, clear instructional goals, and ways to measure that students are achieving the standards.

Language Arts is taught so that students are able to read and write across subject areas. Students are taught strategies to comprehend reading and are introduced to increasingly difficult texts so that students are able to develop analytic and evaluative thinking. Language use and development through writing are expected, and students will have to write, revise and edit their work.

We currently cover the following Tiburon-area school district: Reed Union School District, Tamalpais Union High School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Tiburon District Curriculum

In Math, students start with the basics in numerical operations, measurement, manipulatives and geometry. The expectations become more rigorous and students are expected to create mathematic models, understand geometric functions, and perform more complex data and statistical analysis.

The opportunities in high school for advanced or integrated coursework are increasing. The model of a school within a school in which students take on learning challenges in a subject like Graphic Design or Bio-Medicine are designed for students who have demonstrated competency in their core academic subjects and are prepared for these challenges.
