Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Tuttle District Curriculum

In social studies and humanities classes, students read primarily nonfiction in order to gather evidence to support the theses of the arguments they write. Students also study technical subjects to prepare them for college and work. The school provides a rigorous and supportive curriculum intended to teach students not only academic concepts but life skills and citizenship so that they will be fully-formed individuals.

The expectation is that every student will be prepared for post-secondary education, entering the work force, and citizenship. Tuttle High School’s curriculum emphasizes science literacy by implementing clear guidelines for what students will know by the end of each year. The focus is on foundational concepts with opportunities to explore real scientific phenomenon and learn how to design experiments and verify hypotheses.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Homework

Although there is a perennial debate about whether homework should be assigned, it's not yet going away, and it is something that families need to plan for in their school routine. Setting clear expectations about when the homework needs to get done by ensures children do not procrastinate. Providing a well-organized study environment helps a child learn how to effectively manage their space. When it comes to getting the homework done, that is the child's work, but your role in this homework process also contributes to accountability and responsibility trying to be enforced in students. Take a second to look over your child’s list of homework assignments, sign it when you know your child has completed that assignment and congratulate your child for taking responsibility of what needs to be done each school day.
