Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Union Township District Curriculum

Union Township Schools follow a language arts curriculum based on the Common Core State Standards. Elementary students begin the basics of learning in five key areas: reading, writing, listening, speaking and language. They begin to learn to express themselves orally and in writing and to understand what they read and what they hear. Students continue to develop their expressive and receptive skills as they become critical readers and reactive writers.

The Mathematics curriculum at Union Township also follows the Common Core State Standards. Students in elementary school develop a foundation in operations in base ten, algebraic thinking, geometry, measurement and fractions and decimals. Middle school students continue to strengthen their mathematical understanding as they learn more advanced operations and concepts. In high school, students use what they have learned to further investigate algebra and geometry and have the opportunity to learn trigonometry and pre-calculus.
