Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Vestavia Hills District Curriculum
The Vestavia Hills District’s core curriculum includes Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Music, Art, Technology, World Languages, and Physical Education. The Vestavia Hills Schools follow the State of Alabama Standards, which is based on the establishment of clear standards for learning and which is tested through multiple assessments for the students to validate achievement and provide a complete picture of the effectiveness of the instructional process.
The core classes focus on a spiraling curriculum that begin with a solid foundation of learning through the benchmarks. Math skills are instructed by using a curriculum with emphasis on knowledge, aptitude, theory, and confidence. - Pizitz: A Fit Friendly Place - Pizitz Middle School graciously accepted an award from the American Heart Association for being a school that is Fit Friendly. This award goes to schools that enable the students to be always on the move and eating healthy, by providing times throughout the work day for people to get moving, free classes on fitness and healthy lifestyles, and healthy food options for all.
- Partners in Education - The Partners in Education is a way in which businesses and individuals can give support to their local school, Vestavia Hills Elementary School. Various business and individuals give money, time, and resources to the school's teachers and staff. They are recognized on various levels through school publications each month. All of the donations greatly assist the students of VHES.
- The City - This bi-monthly publication is all about Vestavia Hills, and is mailed out to the residents at the beginning of the month it is published. Any resident can subscribe to The City, and it is currently being upgraded to an email version. The City keeps everyone in the know about all things happening in Vestavia Hills, in the community, in business, the schools, and much more!
