California Tutors

I believe that all children can learn and achieve whatever standards you set for them, no matter how high that standard is. It is my job as an educator to be flexible and adaptable in my teaching and strategies so that I reach all learning levels, styles, and modalities.
I wish to not only educate students, but also to make education an enjoyable experience as well. I believe that the most effective methods of learning are to teach students how to enjoy education, become engaged in it using their own will and discretion, and to inform students of how the education they receive will benefit them and fit what they wish to accomplish in their lives.
Educators must always have a good attitude with students because if they like you there more likely to enjoy learning from you.

Interesting Facts

Visalia is the oldest San Joaquin Valley town between French Camp and Los Angeles. Originally, Tulare County was a piece of land under the large Mariposa County. The pioneers that settled in the area named it “Four Creeks” in 1852.  This name was reflective of the several watershed creeks and rivers that were flowing from the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The group of settlers had petitioned the state legislature for their area to become an independent county. Tulare County was the name given to the new county on July 10th.

Nathaniel Vise was one of the first settlers to inhabit the fort that was built as protection from the Native Americans. The name Visalia was named after Nathaniel Vise’s ancestral home in Visalia, Kentucky. Visalia began to prosper due to the gold rush that was found by the Kern River. The gold rush had caught the attention of miners and these miners visited Visalia to get their share of the gold. However, the gold did not materialize and these miners had decided to settle in Visalia in hopes of starting a family.

Visalia became a part of John Butterfield’s Overland Stage route from St. Louis to San Francisco in 1858. On 116 East Main Street, a plaque about the location can be found. Hotels and saloons emerged by the stage stop downtown and at this time commerce was risky. The telegraph was introduced to the City of Visalia in 1860. This allowed for Visalians to receive information in a timely manner. In fact, the timely delivery of information regarding the events at the East Coast gave way for the development of the Civil War.

The citizens of Visalia during the Civil War were conflicted about choosing the North side versus the South side. This dilemma lead to a small scale civil war among the citizens on Main Street. The outcome of the war is not known. The only that is known is that the war ended with the satisfaction of the citizens and everything in the city went back to normal.

Visalia used to be a small settlement by a creek, however now it has a growing population of 126,864 citizens. The citizens of Visalia are satisfied with the town feel of the city as well as the great quality of life that is provided by easy access to necessities.

Chalk Talk: Building your Self Confidence

The beginning of any school year can be a tough but also exciting time. Many students are excited to see their friends that they haven’t seen over the summer break and to tell them all about their adventures and stories from their summer activities. However, for other students starting in a new school the beginning of the school year can bring feelings of fears and anxiousness. Maybe you feel a little shy, introducing yourself or feel as if no one notices you, but do not allow that fear to prevent you from trying out for a club or sport team that you would like to pick up. It is important to realize that you aren’t the only one that is feeling this way, everyone around you is still learning about who they are what they like. Until you find yourself, there are numerous ways to build up your self confidence.
