Webb City District and Curriculum

The Webb City R-VII School District believes in the relentless pursuit of student learning and success. This is accomplished by providing a supportive and rigorous environment in which all students are given opportunities for success, regardless of academic background and learning style. These opportunities aren’t just academic in nature, but include sports, arts, music, and extracurricular activities. Students are also encouraged to value and become involved in their school and community, so that after graduation, these habits will extend to their local communities and their global communities.

We currently cover the following Webb City-area school district: Webb City R-VII School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Webb City District Curriculum

The curriculum follows the Missouri Learning Standards. In mathematics classes, students are taught to understand how the math works, instead of just memorizing formulas. Humanities classes teach critical reading of complex texts and analytical writing skills. Students gather evidence to support their ideas and opinions in written essays, presentations, and class discussions. By doing this, students learn valuable research skills that help them to recognize the quality of information they find online, in books, and in the news media.

In science classes, students are taught to think critically about problems, ranging from physical science to more advanced engineering or technological problems. Students apply their learning to real-world situations so that they will be well-prepared for post-secondary education and the workforce. Overall, the goal is that students take responsibility for their own learning and become life-long learners.

Chalk Talk: Community Colleges

A community college is a small, state-funded college that usually only offers basic-level courses, the classes students would take during their freshman and sophomore years. Community colleges have open enrollment policies, which means that anyone with a valid high school diploma or GED certificate will be admitted. Community colleges tend to cost about one tenth as much as even state universities, so they are a real boon to students. They also tend to have significantly smaller class sizes, especially considering that they classes they offer are often the ones with the largest class sizes at four-year universities. Community college credits will transfer to four-year colleges and universities in the same way any other credits will transfer: general credits will transfer, but very specific credits might not if the student has changed major.
